After 9 years as a professor at Pennsylvania, Eeckhout is currently an ICREA researcher at the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, having just published a book entitled: “The Profit Paradox: How Thriving Firms Threaten the Future of Work”.
In this book, widely disseminated among academics, the author demonstrates that the power of the market has led to a situation which is asymmetrically beneficial, with huge profits for many companies going hand-in-hand with a degradation in the working conditions of employees. Alongside providing evidence of these phenomena, he proposes a solution which provides greater control over the power of the market whilst ensuring that the benefits of economic growth reach all citizens.
