José Ignacio Hormaeche

Director General of the Asociación Cluster de Energía del País Vasco, José Ignacio Hormaeche is a Civil Engineer from the Higher Technical School of Civil Engineering, Canals and Ports from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (1986), majoring in Hydraulics and Energy. In 1991, he obtained a Master’s Degree in Business Management from INSIDE, Deusto Commercial University, majoring in Marketing.

In March 2013, he became Director General of the Asociación Cluster de Energía del País Vasco, which brings together more than 200 companies and other organizations, with the objective of improving the competitivity of energy companies in the Basque Country (with a special focus on SMEs), through collaboration in the areas of technological development, internationalization, talent and sustainability.

From February 2006 to March 2013, he was Director General of the Ente Vasco de la Energía (EVE), the energy agency of the Basque Government. As part of this position, he was a member of the Board of Directors of various companies in which EVE participates, including Naturgas Energía, Bahía Bizkaia Gas, IBIL, etc. as well as being President of the CIC energiGUNE (Center for Research in energy technologies) and of the public companies CADEM and SHESA (Sociedad de Hidrocarburos de Euskadi, S.A.).

From 1998 to February 2006, he worked within the GAMESA Group, and in 2004, he became Director of Operations of GAMESA EOLICA, a leading company in the design, manufacture and maintenance of wind turbines and wind farms. He is also former Director General of SIEMSA, a company in the GAMESA Group, whose main activity was the assembly and maintenance of electrical installations.

Between 1995 and 1998, he was Marketing Director of the COINPASA Group, made up of companies dedicated to Engineering and Consulting. From 1987 to 1995, he worked at the ROBOTIKER Technological Center, where he held various positions including Commercial Director (1989-1991) and Deputy Director (1991-1995).
