María Teresa Laespada

Trayectory

Born in Bilbao, she has a PhD in Sociology and a degree in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Deusto.

She is currently a Provincial Deputy for Employment, Social Inclusion and Equality in the Provincial Council of Biscay. It is her second legislature position.

She is a member of the Executive board of the Euskadi Socialist Party (PSE-EE) and a former Basque parliamentarian (2009-2012), and a Professor at the Department of Social Psychology at the University of Deusto, currently on leave due to her position as a deputy on the council of Biscay.

Prior to her leave of absence, she was director of the Deusto Institute for Drug Addiction, director of the Master’s programme in drug and other addictions, as well as a teacher of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

She has been Principal Researcher (PI) in the line of research on drug addiction and other addictions at the UD, and is a member of the research team recognized by the Basque Government on quality of life and social inclusion.

She has more than a hundred publications on youth, alcohol, drug use, social exclusion, social policies, etc.
